Candle of the Month – Navy Candle and Teal Candle

Our September 2020 Fresh / Earthy Candle of the Month is...

Salty oceans, sapphire blues, tranquil aquatics, cool breeze.

Turquoise beaches, emerald greens, Arctic sea, spring air.

This month we had a little too much fun. Our design brief – if colour had a scent, what would it smell like?

Now some may think this is a crazy concept but if you think about colours do certain scents float into your mind? I know when I think of reds it’s the smell of the dusty outback or fiery spices. Purple is plums, Yellow is zesty lemons, and white is clean like cotton. We definitely wanted to think outside the box this month and we started on our mission to find out what comes to mind when you think of different colours.

We started with the jars. As you many know, we have a bit of a candle library of different scents and of course candle containers in different shapes, sizes and colours. This month was easy, I’m loving Teal, the perfect colour for Spring and I’m liking the Navy combo. With our colour selected, now we needed to set about matching a scent to the shade.

I called in reinforcements for this one, a few friends and family happily volunteer each month to help sniff, whiff and comment on the fragrances that go into your candles each month. This month was a bit harder as we needed to not only just pick a scent but match that to what we all imagined that shade would smell like.

There were lots of water, fresh and powdery notes and with a vote we chose what we thought WAS Navy and Teal. Of course there was a mini argument over which candle we would create so we decided to make both. Some of our candle lovers will pick up the Navy, some of our sub boxes have Teal.

I have purposely chosen not to tell you what actual base, middle and top notes are in these candles. I’m a big believer in mind over matter and sometimes when you know what’s in fragrance those are the notes that you smell. If we use descriptive colours and images to communicate what the candle scent is I’m hoping you smell what we think these colours would be.
